Skid Severson

Metal Machine Music

Griffonage Studios presents an exhibit of black and white photographs by Tucson artist and musician Skid Severson. The exhibit opens on May 3 and will run through May 24, 2008. An opening reception will be held on Saturday May 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Exhibit hours are Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 to 5:00 pm and by appointment.

Skid Severson is a self-taught photographer with a maverick perspective. Best known for his automotive series, he brings a rare perspective to the over-photographed and mythologized subject of American car culture; his own vision.

Avoiding the clichés which befall the majority of hot-rodding imagery, Skid deftly sidesteps the cultural minefields of postmodernist over-analysis and self-conscious retro fashion. Severson's photographs emphasize his enthusiastic and personal relationship with the world of gear heads.

An Arizona based photographer and musician, Skid Severson exhibits work in the Tucson area and gigs regularly in the many of the city's nightspots. His work has been published in No Depression, Tape Op and he is a frequent contributor to the Tucson Weekly.

Severson is a former member of the defunct and much-missed musical ensemble, Rodeo Queen.
