ARTIST’s STATEMENT
I have always been intrigued by photographs that address the
commonplace; situations or things that are routinely overlooked.
My objective
is to preserve the shapes or the flow of lines that exist only in a
particular moment, by capturing those qualities which occur in that
magical split-second when the shutter is released. Having no formal
training, I shoot what feels right to me. My approach is entirely
intuitive.
This
particular series is a work in progress. The work as it now exists,
originated when I was asked to exhibit a group of photographs that
explored my aesthetic response to hot-rodding and custom automobiles. My
intent was to get past the conventional documentary approach used by so
many other photographers, as well as to address the details and formal
aspects of the machines and to explore the conjunction of light, line
and form that transcends subject matter. Being lucky enough to have a
number of rodding enthusiasts as friends, I began photographing their
creations and in the process, the series essentially created itself.
The photographs
assembled in this exhibition are part of a future series, which will
include aircraft and locomotive images, in addition to the digitally
generated automobile images currently on display. The working title for
the emerging project is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles."
